Halifax Criterium History

HISTORY:

Halifax Criterium 1980

Halifax Criterium 1976

The streets around the Halifax North Common have been a popular venue for bicycle racing for many years.

In the 1970’s and 80’s races were regularly held there, sometimes 3 times per year. Races such as the Spring Thaw Criterium, Natal Day Criterium and Joseph Howe Criterium were the most anticipated events on the Bicycle Nova Scotia racing calendar.

There had been no bicycle racing around the North Common for 12 years when the Bicycles Plus Cycling Club, with the generous assistance of our sponsors, brought it back in 2003. The Halifax Criterium quickly became the most popular bicycle race in the Atlantic Provinces and was held for 4 years (2003-2007).
