So what is this club all about? How do I join? What do I get? How much does it cost?
These are all great questions. Allow us to answer them here.
The Bicycles Plus cycling club is more than a group of spandex-clad, leg-shaving, PowerBar- eating, hill-hammering roadies! Our membership is comprised of people of all cycling abilities and interests. Some come to join our road rides on Saturdays and throughout the week; others join our weekly mountain bike rides; some don't ride with us at all, but take advantage of the savings they receive on parts and accessories in the shop! Our doors are open to everyone with an interest in cycling. Our goal is to encourage people to ride their bikes whether commuting to work, racing in the local scene, or just going for a Sunday spin with family and friends.
Joining the club is as simple as following this ONLINE REGISTRATION LINK and using your credit card to register tnline through the Atlantic Chip Timing site. If this is not an option for you due to lack of credit card or if you are a minor, you can simply print out the forms from this site, fill them out and deliver them with your club fees to Bicycles Plus in Bedford, located right behind Wendy's next to the Chickenburger restaurant. The staff at the shop can accept your forms and give you more detailed information on the club.
When you join, you are now not only a member of the club, but a general member of Bicycle Nova Scotia. This membership entitles you to be insured when participating in any of our sanctioned club social rides. It also helps to support cycling in the province in general! Also, you will now receive "Club Discounts" on regularly priced parts and accessories in the store of up to 15%! And as if that's not enough, you will have access to our recently revamped website and online forum which allows members to share ideas, plan rides, and access cycling news and club classifieds.
It's the coolest club around! What better way to get involved with like-minded individuals and make some new friends to plan rides with. Our club also frequently has social events which may or may not involve cycling. You can get updates on all of this when you log in to the forum. Oh, and one more thing, we do annual orders for custom club uniforms, or "Kits." you may have seen some of these club kits rolling around on the streets of Metro Halifax and around the Maritimes. We are proud of our colors and hope you will join us for a ride!
Club fees are $35 per year. The membership year starts on January 1st and ends on December 31st each year. $25 of this fee goes to BNS for the general membership and the other $10 goes to our club for administrative costs and to help plan events year-round. This is a non-profit organization so this money is well spent!
